Can I store and watch movies on my Tv with a hitachi xl 1tb hard drive?

Just wondering is this product media friendly as I recently bought one online and am waiting for it deliver. I mainly want to use it to store and watch movies on my tv, It says it's USB compatible and I wonder is this the same thing as Media friendly
