Am i being to Selfish about keeping my dog?

To cut a long story short by beautiful Maltese x Shih Tzu future is hard to predict. My parents split and he lives in Melbourne, only rarely he visits Sydney for work and his house. We have a friend staying over who feeds our 2 dogs who have been together for all their lifes.
