1996 Ford Escort 1.9L I4 not starting?

I have a 1996 Ford Escort 5 speed manual with a 1.9L 4 cylinder engine. As of about 3 weeks ago I had the clutch replaced which probably has nothing to do with it. Last night I drove it to a friends house and when I went to leave it wouldn't start. This is the first time its had a problem starting. It has power because the engine is still able to turn over and all the lights come on but it wont start. What could be wrong?
